Reading self-help literature can encourage a passion for ourselves and with our inner life.

You directly learn things from the writer's experiences. When you inculcate the habit of reading at a later age, you regret not spending time reading these amazing books. If I get the chance to go back to my teenage or my 20s, I would have read these books so that when I enter my adolescence, I'll be more skilled and ahead of the game. I would highly recommend you read these books as soon as possible:

  • Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life by Francesc Miralles and Hector Garcia

  • Atomics Habits by James Clear

  • Creative Visualisation by Shakthi Gwain

  • Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

  • Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki

  • 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven R Covey

  • 4 Hour Work Week by Timothy F

  • How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnigie

  • The Power of Now by Elkhart Tolle

As far as reading self-improvement books is concerned, you should start when you really feel like it. No strings attached. You can only get yourself to act on the ideas the books present you with when you are actually WILLING to improve. And no amount of forced reading will help as it's not natural. It should come from within, and when it does - get yourself any self-improvement book that you like at that moment and start reading.

Don't try to accomplish things like "I will read "30" pages today. Instead, a better way is to read up until you feel that slight feeling of tiredness. Books can only guide you. Choose the right book. Make sure you are running towards the side which opens to light…

Sometimes I feel stuck in life. There was always some part of these books that has helped me out of it. Ikigai was one book. After reading the book, I was in search of my life purpose and passion. It took me some months to realise what I wanted. For that again other readings did help. I started my reading journey with the 5am Club. I rigorously started following the 5am club routine since then. Reading was a part of it. But I was struggling to make it a habit. Even though in the 5 am club, he says that it takes 90 days to form a habit- I wanted instant results. Then I started reading Atomics Habits. Through that, I started implementing small habits or a chain of linked habits.

There were some books which I bought watching the great reviews. But some of them did not resonate with me. Hence I did not complete reading that book. I personally feel that we should not force ourselves with any book that helps other people. It's always Try and Decide situation.

I have a habit of watching Youtube and Instagram recommendations of books and purchasing the books while I am watching the video. Sometimes I move it to the cart. But before the video is over- the books are in my cart. As of today, I have 10–15 books on my bookshelf that I have not read. I have 15–20 books in my Amazon cart too. The Book world is big enough that you can never go hungry for good books.

Creative Visualisation, Secret etc come in different genre. They guide you to manifestations, affirmations and visualisations. Man's Search for Meaning, The Richest Man in Babylon holds you on the couch for long. The books from Darius Foroux series are easy to understand and make us realise that we can control our overthinking and think in a different direction.

I have not mentioned many of the good books here as the list might go a bit long. I am also not explaining what you get from each book as the takeaway differs from person to person. If you read the same book again- the takeaway is different this time. I have read Ikigai and Atomic habits multiple times. Every time I am reading a new book, the takeaway is different every time.

Some say reading too much self-help literature can encourage an obsession with ourselves and our inner life. What's wrong? Reading is the Best habit anyone can have and if it becomes an obsession- It is still better than other addictions or obsessions. So I would suggest that you find the genres that you really like and read those. This would certainly take time and experimentation.

Try It and Decide if its resonating with you!
