Abra Ca Dabra – The Magic of Our Words
We often think of Abracadabra as a magician’s word — something uttered before a trick or a spell. But very few know that its roots go deep into ancient wisdom. It comes from the Aramaic phrase “Avra Kehdabra”, meaning “I create as I speak.”
I am sure you remember Abra ca Dabra from Arabian Nights and the Killing Spell " Avada Kedavra," from Harry Potter.
How powerful is that? It reminds us that every word we speak — whether of love, anger, doubt, or encouragement — is a form of creation. We constantly shape our world through our words.
To understand this more deeply, let’s travel back to a time long ago, when a wise healer demonstrated how a single word could change lives.
The Story of the Village Healer and the Word of Creation
Long ago, in a quiet village by the mountains, there lived a humble healer named Aram. People came from far and near seeking his help for wounds, sorrow, or fear. Aram had no potions or spells, only a gentle smile and a single word he would whisper over every person: “Abracadabra.”
One day, a traveller who had lost all hope came to him and said,“Old man, your word is nonsense. Do you really think saying Abracadabra can heal anything?”
Aram smiled and replied,“Perhaps not the word itself, but the spirit behind it. Abracadabra means I create as I speak. When I say it, I remind your soul that healing begins when you speak kindly to yourself.”
He gave the traveller a small parchment inscribed with a triangle of letters:
ABRACADABRA
ABRACADABR
ABRACADAB
ABRACADA
ABRACAD
ABRACA
ABRAC
ABRA
ABR

“Read this each morning,” Aram said. “With every line you read, let your negative thoughts fall away, until only the first letter — A, the beginning — remains. Then speak a kind word about yourself.”
The traveller did as told .Days turned into weeks, and soon his heart felt lighter. His life began to change — not because of a spell, but because he started to speak differently — with hope, gratitude, and kindness.
He returned to thank Aram, saying,“Your word truly was magic.”
Aram smiled again,“It always was — but so are yours.”
The Reflection
The story may sound simple, but its message is profound. Every word we utter is a vibration that shapes our reality. When we speak words of kindness, healing, and belief, we create light. When we speak in anger, fear, or criticism, we create shadows.
We are all creators in our own way — whispering our destiny into being with every thought, every conversation, every affirmation.
So the next time you catch yourself saying something harsh — pause. Remember Abracadabra. Remember that you are creating as you speak.
A Gentle Practice
Pause before speaking: Will this word heal or hurt?
Speak to yourself as you would to your best friend.
Remember: what you say to others reflects
to you.
If Abracadabra means “I create as I speak,” then every conversation is magic—either dark or light. Let us choose words that weave light, healing, and love into our lives and the lives of others.
